Using digital solutions to adapt to COVID-19 restrictions
Like so many education providers in the UK, Portsmouth Grammar School (PGS) has had to quickly adapt to the changes that COVID-19 restrictions forced them to make. Most notably, Open Days for prospective students have always been a busy time for the school with a stream of visitors coming in and out of the school to get a taste of life at PGS.
Building a virtual Open Day experience
Building on the brand and website development work already in place, we have been able to quickly develop a virtual Open Day experience for PGS to ensure that it is still able to provide prospective students and parents with a unique insight into the school.
The Portsmouth Grammar School virtual Open Day experience provides visitors with access to explore the school through interactive 360˚ images and to hear from the Head and Head of Junior School, pupils, and other members of staff.
Access to the virtual Open Day experience is via a data capture form that provides the school with valuable contact information on prospective students and, crucially, allows them to follow-up based on their specific interests. As well as access to pre-recorded content, visitors to the virtual Open Days can also arrange to meet key members of staff via scheduled one-to-one video calls.
An engaging digital Open Day alternative
On a tight timeline and through remote working, we were able to quickly create an engaging web-based alternative to traditional Open Days for PGS. Whilst this solution primarily helped address immediate challenges, the virtual Open Day experience is now in place for future events, whether they remain digital-only or to complement on-site Open Days once restrictions are lifted.
